Publix Green Advantage Flier

The new green Advantage flier starts today! Yippee!

Snag one of these bad boys as you walk in the store, they're typically found on the same display as the weekly ad.

Here's what you're looking for...

You can check out a full list of match-ups on the IHeartPublix site here.

One thing that jumped out at me is the Pert Plus deal...

Pert Plus Select Varieties 12-13.5 o,z $2.99
-$1/1 Green Adv Buy Flyer (Publix Q, stack it baby!)
-$1/1 Pert Plus, 12 oz or larger 01/24/2010 SS (exp 03/31/10 )S
-$1.50/1 Pert Plus for Men 01/24/2010 SS

There's also a $1/1 Pert MQ in this weekend's newspaper...gotta love cheap shampoo!

And the wonderful Sundown vitamin deal...

-$6/2 Sundown Naturals Vitamins or Marvel Heroes Gummies (Publix Q)
-$1/1 Sundown Naturals Vitamin Or Supplement Product, Any – 02-21-10 RP
-$1/1 Sundown product – 01-24-10 RP
-$2/1 Sundown Naturals Fish Oil, Any – 01-24-10 RP
-$3/2 here

I get so excited when I see this $6/2 Publix Q, I know it means MONEYMAKER!!!
Feel free to use these coupons on the super-expensive vitamins...as for me, I'll be looking for the $2.99 bottles to turn a profit.

Here's my math:

Buy 2 bottles of vitamins priced at $2.99 each = $5.98
Use one of the $6/2 Publix Q: $5.98 - $6 = $.02 Profit
Now stack two of the $1/1 MQs on top: $.02 + $1 + $1 = $2.02 PROFIT!

The $3/2 MQ makes an even better deal, so start looking for the less expensive bottles! If you're using the $3/2 MQ and the Publix $6/2 Q, look for bottles that are $4.50 or less to score FREE vitamins. If you're using two of the $1/1 MQ and the $6/2 Publix Q look for bottles that are $4 or less to score FREE vitamins. Anything less than that and you're MAKIN' MONEY BABY!

What did you spend on groceries this month?

Everyone has a different grocery budget, so the answer to this question will be different for everyone.

Because I coupon to the extreme, my budget is ridiculously small, but it didnt' start off this way.

The first few months that I started to use coupons, I saved 10-15% each week. It takes a few months to really build a supply of coupons, and during that time you're still learning out how to use them all).

My savings gradually grew as did my excitement!

Less than a year ago I was spending $100 per week on groceries. Check out what I'm spending now (click on any date to view my shopping trip):

Feb. 3 I SAVED $124 and only spent $.35

Feb. 6 I SAVED $125 and only spent $1.07

Feb. 16 I SAVED $218 and only spent $6.35

Feb. 24 I SAVED $235 and only spent $.94

That's $702 worth of groceries for only $8.71.

Just like the fine print on weight loss products; these results aren't typical. But man, they sure are fun!

Publix: SAVED $235.35 & spent less than $1!

New to coupon shopping at Publix? Check out my Publix 101 lesson here.

Wow, this has by far been the best grocery shopping month that I've had in my entire life!

I'm actually pretty surprised that I did so well tonight at Publix. I didn't really have a list (a big no-no for me) but just a general idea of what I needed to buy. Plus I kinda felt icky, so I wasn't really in a mood to shop.

I ended up buying waaaaay more than I planned on, but it all worked out so well I can't really complain. I was kicking myself in the butt for buying so much when I had to load it all into my car though. It was raining cats and dogs and I had left my umbrella in the car! :(

So here's what I came home with:

Not pictured is a loaf of Sara Lee bread. I forgot to add it to the pile and didn't realize this until I'd already put half of it away. So just close your eyes and imagine a loaf of bread...

And here's the breakdown (be prepared, it's a lot):

The only other coupon that I used was a $5/$30 purchase competitor's coupon from WinnDixie.

Not too bad for $1, eh?

*HOT* CVS deal on Huggies Wipes

New to coupon shopping at CVS? Check out my CVS 101 post here.

CVS has Huggies Wipes Tubs on sale for 2/$5. BUT the 216 ct refills ($7.99 regular price)are also ringing in at this price. WOW that is a great price!!!!!!!!!

For those of you who change poopy daipers, sounds like it's time to stock up!!!

**also, scan your card FIRST at the scanner, some people are reporting $2 Huggies wipes coupons- wow**

Walgreens 2/22: Spent $1.67, made a PROFIT of $16.33!

New to coupon shopping at Walgreens? Check out my Wags 101 post here.

There's some good news and some bad news...

Bad news is I may have to start going to a new Walgreen's location. I went to my super-convenient location today (Hwy 50) and the entire time the cashier was ringing me up she complained about couponers! Here's the thing, I know there are scammers out there, but I'm an honest couponer and I purchase A LOT of items at that location! Do I expect special treatment, no. Do I expect my cashier to at least be polite to me, only if they want me to continue to spend my money there.

I literally only bought half of what I planned to because of that, and ended up driving to the location on Barna to finish my shopping trip. The cashier there was super-nice and even thanked me for coupon shopping there!

(Expect a post soon on why stores should love us couponers!)

And now for the good news!

Take a look at what I bought for $1.67 OOP:

As you can see I took advantage of the Vicks deal that I posted about here, as well as an Excedrin deal that I'll explain.

To purchase all of the items pictured I did 4 separate transactions and tried to pay for as many as I could with RRs that I already had.

My first transaction consisted of:

4 bottles of Nyquil $5.49 each = $21.96
2 boxes of Puffs with Vicks on sale 3/$5 = $1.67 each = $3.34
1 bottle of Excedrin Menstrual Relief on sale 2/$5 = $2.50
2 boxes instant pudding 3/$1 = $.33 each = $.66
1 package Ramen noodles $.22

I used the following coupons:
4 x $1.50 off 1 Nyquil or Dayquil from the 2/7 or 2/21 P&G insert = $6 in savings
1 x $2 off 1 bottle of Excedrin (any style) from here
2 x FREE Puffs w/ Vicks WYB 2 Vicks products (two boxes of tissues for FREE)

I paid for nearly all of my transaction with RRs, and since you have to have the same number of items as MQs (and RRs are MQs) I had to buy some filler items. Remember, a filler item is a very inexpensive item (like pudding or Ramen noodles) that you can use to even out your ratio of items to coupons.

Because I spent at least $20 in Vicks products the register printed a $10 RR, as well as a $2 RR for the Excedrin! I already made a hefty profit (over $11!) but I wanted MORE!

This week Walgreen's is offering a $2 RR when you buy (WYB) 1 bottle of Excedrin Menstrual Relief caplets.

Even though it isn't specifically pictured in the ad, this product is on sale this week 2/$5, so it's already a great deal at $.50 after RR. Keep in mind the Menstrual Relief is the only type of Excedrin that is included in the 2/$5 sale that also triggers a RR. I also wasted 10 minutes searching the 'feminine needs' aisle for this product, with no luck. I finally found it with the regular Excedrin toward the bottom shelf of the display. It wasn't marked with the sale price, but I had the cashier double-check the price before I rang anything up.

Combine the RR deal with the following coupons to make this a MONEYMAKER:

Save $1 on Excedrin Menstrual Relief here
Save $2 on any Excedrin product here
Save $2 on any Excedrin product here (just make sure you answer Excedrin!)
Save $1 on any Excedrin 20ct+ from the 1/3 SS insert

Using any of the above coupons will make a PROFIT, and remember that all of the internet printable coupons can be printed twice. After it prints the first time, hit the back button on your browser and then 'yes' when it asks if you would like to resend the information.

My next 3 transactions were all the same. Each consisted of 1 bottle of Excedrin combined with one of the above mentioned coupons. Again I paid for each with a RR that I already had, and because I used a MQ and a RR I also bought an individual mint for $.05 to even out my ratio.

After all was said and done my total OOP was $1.67. I used $19 in RRs from previous transactions and walked out with $18 in RRs to use on either my next Wags trip or groceries at Publix. :)

P&G Coupon Book & Walgreen's Vicks Deal

If you bought today's paper (and you better have!) you might have noticed that the P&G Brand Saver featured a mail-in request for a $100 P&G Coupon Book. If you would rather print the form, want to see a complete list of the coupons it includes or have more more questions regarding this offer, check out this link.

Unlike most of the P&G Coupon Books, this one requires that you purchase at least $50 worth of any P&G products in order to receive one. The purchase requirement is before any coupons are used, so that shouldn't be hard to do.

If you did the razor/Olay body wash deal that I posted about here, then you've already spent $45.48 toward the $50*.

If not, try this deal out:

Walgreen's is currently running a RR deal on Vicks products. You will earn a $10 RR when you buy (WYB) at least $20 in Vicks products or a $5 RR WYB $10 worth. The smallest bottles of Vicks NyQuil and DayQuil are priced at around $5 each.

Deal Scenario:
Buy 4 bottles of NyQuil or Dayquil at $5 each
$5 x 4 = $20 (just enough to hit the $20 requirement)
Use 4 $1.50/1 any one Vicks product from the 2/7 or 2/21 P&G insert
$20 - $1.50 - $1.50 - $1.50 - $1.50 = $14
Buy 2 boxes of Puffs with Vicks at $2.39 each
Use 2 'Free box of Puffs with Vicks WYB any 2 NyQuil or DayQuil' MQ from the 2/7 P&G insert to score the tissues for FREE!

You will pay $14 out of pocket (unless you have RRs from previous deals to use) and will score a $10 RR. That's only $4 for 6 items - how often can you score name brand medicine for less than $1 a bottle?

What's even better is that you will have spent $24.78 toward your $50 for the Coupon Book! I've heard this is one of the few RR deals that you can roll (use the RR you earn from this deal to repeat it) so if you have the coupons to do this deal twice you'll only need to buy another $.44 worth of P&G items to hit the $50 mark.

Not sure what qualifies as a P&G item? Check out a full list of their brands here.

(My wonderful friend Sara emailed me about the P&G Coupon Book awhile ago-thanks for the heads up Sara!)

*Keep in mind that most mail in rebates (MIR) will require that you send the original sales register receipt. If you had planned on using your Target receipt for the $15 Olay Rebate you won't be able to use it for the P&G Coupon Book.

Publix Match-Ups

If you've never checked out IHeartPublix.com, please do so right away!

This was the first coupon blog that I ever read, and it changed my life. I read this blog every day, and consider it my go-to for anything Publix related.

Michelle, the owner of this site, works full time to provide up to date info on the best deals Publix has to offer.

She does ad previews (so you know what will be on sale next week) as well as an incredibly in-depth match-up. Matching up all of the available coupons that are floating around out there to each item listed in the sale flier is no easy task, and I'm more than happy to leave her to it! Each week I'll try to post her match-ups so that you can plan your shopping trips a little easier.

Keep in mind when reading her match-ups that the coupons listed in red are MQs, the ones in green are either Publix store Qs or competitor coupons.

Her site also hosts a really nice coupon trading message board. I've used this feature more than a few times to score coupons that I needed, so if you're feeling adventurous check it out!

To access her match-ups for the current ad click here. You can also access the full site by clicking on the IHeartPublix button on the right side of screen.

CVS: 101

The first thing you need to know when shopping at CVS is this: YOU MUST HAVE AN EXTRA CARE CARD! This little card is key to scoring some great deals! They're free and easy to get. You can either snag one at your local CVS location or you can apply for one to be mailed to you here. If you take the route of immediate gratification and take one from the cashier, make sure that you fill out the application that comes with it. By providing them with your email and mailing address you are pretty much guaranteeing that they will send you some great deals like online-only coupons and $ off coupons ($5 off a $20 purchase, etc.).

Your Extra Care Card will allow you to take advantage of their special 'card required' sales and Extra Care Buck offers. Every time that you shop there make sure that you hand your card to the cashier before they scan any items, this way everything will ring up at the correct sale price.

The card allows CVS to track your spending. Every 3 months they will reward you with Extra Care Bucks (ECB) equal to 2% of your total spending! Keep in mind that total is based on your out-of-pocket (OOP) spending, so for hard-core couponers like me it's never a very high total, but I'll take 2% of anything for FREE!

What is a ECB? Think of ECBs as CVS cash, because that's exactly how you use them. Each week CVS will offer special ECB deals. Basically, if you buy a certain item, the register will print an ECB of a specified dollar amount that can be used on your next purchase. For example, in this week's ad 2x Ultra Tide or Gain laundry detergent are on sale.

The ad states that with your card you will pay $10.99 per bottle, and the register will print an ECB worth $2. Taking the ECB into consideration, that takes the price down to $8.99 per bottle.

Now let's read the fine print. The ECBs are limited to two deals per card. That means the ECBs will only print for this deal twice. Once you buy the third bottle you'll still get the sale price ($10.99) but NO ECBs will print. Make sure you take notice of the limit amount because it's not always the same. Some deals will allow 2, some 6, some only 1.

CVS loves us so much, sometimes they'll even offer items that are FREE after ECBs!
Take this week's offer as an example. EARinse (an ear cleaning gel) is on sale for $7.99. Once you purchase this item the register will print a $7.99 ECB, which means you just scored a FREE item! Notice this awesome deal is limited to 1 deal per card.

You can take the ECB deals and combine them with your coupons to save even more! Just like Walgreen's RRs, the ECB is generated once the item is scanned and does not take into consideration how much you're actually paying for the item. That means you can use coupons to lower your OOP expense without jeopardizing your ECBs! And because CVS does issue their own coupons you can stack them with MQs to maximize your savings!

Here's a great coupon/ECB combo to get you started:

Colgate Maxfresh 4.6-6 oz. or 2-in-1 Kids 4.6 oz. $2.99 = $2Ecb (Limit 1)
Use the $0.75/1 coupon from the 2/21 SS or from here
Final Cost $0.24!

Or the Tide deal that we already talked about.

2X Ultra Tide or Gain Detergent 48-64 loads $10.99 = $2Ecb (Limit 2)
Buy 1 2X Ultra Tide Detergent $10.99
Buy 1 Tide Stain Release 10ct-18ct Duo Pac, 20-36oz Liquid, or 14-26oz Powder
Use the Buy 1 Tide Detergent and Get 1 Tide Stain Release Free coupon from the 2/7 PG
Use the $0.35/1 coupon from the 1/17 PG or 2/7 PG
Pay $10.64
Get back a $2Ecb
Final Cost $8.64 for both!

If you happen to have a coupon for the FREE after ECB item, use it to turn that purchase into a MONEYMAKER!

Another nice thing about CVS is that they allow you to roll your ECBs. What this means is that you can use ECBs that you earned from a previous deal to pay for another deal that will also earn ECBs. Doing this will allow you to minimize your OOP expense, and after all, isn't that what couponing is all about?

CVS also pays you to go green!

You can purchase one of their Green Bag Tags for $1. Each time that you bring your own reusable shopping bag they will scan your Green Bag Tag, and after every 4 times they scan it a 1 ECB will print. CVS recommends that you attach the tag to your shopping bag, but because I have several and never know which one I'll grab, I attached mine to my purse.

Keep in mind that ECBs do expire, so make sure that you don't shove them in your purse and forget about them. Most are good for 2 weeks from the date they're printed. And ECBs are NOT manufacturer coupons like Walgreen's RRs, so you CAN'T use them anywhere but CVS.

CVS does not match competitor prices nor do they accept competitor coupons*, so do the math on each deal and make sure you're still paying the lowest price possible.

*CVS does accept competitor coupons from other pharmacies on prescription refills.

CVS does not have a written coupon policy, so if you have any specific questions be sure to ask the manager of your location.

All-You Magazine-it's totally worth it!

All You is a magazine that you can subscribe to here or purchase at Wal-Mart (yes, only Wal-Mart).

Why is it so great? Because every month the magazine is packed with coupons! Of course it has all the regular womens-mag stuff too; recipes, health tips, fashion , home decor and organization features, but it's the coupons that totally make it worth it.

You can check out the list of coupons that can be found in the February issue here, that's over $47 in coupons for less than $3. What's even better is that in most issues you can find a $.50 coupon for the next month's issue.

I subscribe because I prefer to avoid Wal-Mart at nearly any cost, so I usually get mine in the mail 1-2 weeks before it's available to purchase in the store. The coupons vary from make-up to snack foods and they never disappoint.

If you're unsure about whether or not All You is for you, try out the 2 week trial subscription (it's FREE!) to test the waters.

Stay tuned...

There a lot of things to stay tuned in for!

The first Coupon Academy class is booked for this Friday (sorry guys, it's a private party) and there will be several open classes scheduled for Saturday, March 13. As soon as we have definite details set I will post them on this blog and my facebook page.

Tonight I'll also be posting what I think are the best deals for the week as well as posting the Publix coupon match-ups that are good through Wednesday. The match-ups are courtesy of IheartPublix.com, so be sure to check out that site. I'll try to post her match-ups from now on to make it easier for everyone to plan their grocery shopping lists.

I'm also working on a few in-depth posts about the basics of CVS and Target shopping, so stay tuned!

BOGO Sales 101

Many stores will offer BOGO (Buy 1 get 1 free) sales to push certain merchandise.
Don't think for a minute that they're really giving anything away for free though.

Manufacturer's will arrange to provide stock at an extremely discounted price, or possibly even reimburse a store for products sold during these sales. Have you ever noticed that one week CVS will offer something BOGO and the next week Walgreen's will do the same thing? Not a coincidence!

Here in Florida a BOGO sale is a true BOGO. What I mean by that is one item will ring up at full price, the second item will ring up at $0, that way you have to buy both items to get the deal (in some other states each item will ring up with a 50% discount).

I love BOGO sales, especially when I can combine them with coupons. Even though you're only paying for one item, you are still allowed to use coupons on each item that is scanned (or 1 MQ and 1 store Q if that store allows stacking).

What's even better is when you can combine a BOGO sale with a BOGO coupon, like I did last night at CVS.

This week CVS is selling Gatorade and Sobe Lifewater BOGO for $1.59 each. I went in to buy 4 bottles total. I printed 2 BOGO Sobe MQs from here to pair with this sale.

Here's how it rang up:

4 Sobe Lifewaters on sale BOGO at $1.59 each
$1.59 + $0 + $1.59 + $0 = $3.18 (2 rang up full price, 2 rang up at $0)
Then the cashier scanned by first BOGO MQ, which subtracted the price of one bottle:
$3.18 - $1.59 = $1.59
Then the cashier scanned by second BOGO MQ, which subtracted the price of another bottle:
$1.59 - $1.59 = $0!

The BOGO MQ will subtract the price of one of two items purchased, and since I'm already paying for only of of the two items purchased I really get them both for FREE!

All I had to pay was tax, which came to a whopping $.20, so I only ended up paying $.05 per bottle OOP (out-of-pocket)!

Publix 2/16: Spent $6.35, SAVED $218.69!!!

My shopping list tonight started with 8 items...and grew, and grew and grew! I ended up with an overflowing shopping cart, but once I saw all the great deals I just couldn't stop myself!

I was kicking my own butt at the end though. My poor mental math skills ended up costing me $6! More on that at the end of this post...

So here's what I took home:

Not pictured is a $33 Publix gift card...and there's where my math totally messed me up! I was trying so hard to keep track of my coupon overage on my cell phone, but my lovely husband kept calling me and I ended up messing up by $6 (if I had only put $27 on the gift card, I would have ended up paying $.35) but considering all that I walked out with, $6 isn't' so bad!

I also had a $5/$30 purchase coupon from Winn-Dixie that I forgot to use as well as some RR from Walgreens, but there's always next week.

Here's the breakdown:

1 bag Gold Potatoes $3.99

1 bag Petite Red Potatoes $3.49

1 bunch bananas $.93

1 pkg. asparagus on sale for $2.47

1 bag carrots $.89

6 Kiwi fruit on sale 3/$1 total $1.67

1 pkg white mushrooms on sale 2/$3 total $1.50

2 Birds Eye Steamfresh Meals for Two BOGO $6.99 each
I used two $1.50/1 MQ...$6.99-$3 = $3.99 or less than $2 each!

1 bag Publix brand frozen corn $1.29

4 boxes Sunbelt granola bars $1.99 each = $7.96
I used two BOGO MQ...$7.96 - $3.98 = $3.98 or less than $1 each!

1 Garnier hair styling spray on clearance for $1.45
I used one $1/1 MQ...$1.45 - $1 = $.45!

2 Thomas' Bagels (rain-check from 2 wks ago) BOGO $3.99

39 Knox Gelatin individual boxes $1.39 each = $54.21
I used 39 $4/1 MQ...$54.21 - $156 = $101.49 OVERAGE

1 Excedrin pain reliever on sale 2/$5 $2.50
I used a $2/1 MQ...$2.50 - $2 = $.50!

4 boxes Kellog cereal BOGO $4.39 each = $8.78
I used one $1.50/2 MQ and one $1/1 MQ...$8.78 - $1.50 - $1 = $6.28
That's like paying $1.57 per box!

2 Betty Crocker cookie mix BOGO $2.19

2 pkg Publix brand noodle mix $.97 each = $1.94 total
I did have Qs for other brands, but the store brand was still cheaper!

1 box Ziploc Steamer Bags $2.69
I stacked a $.50 MQ and a $1.50/1 Publix Q...$2.69 - $.50 - $1.50 = $.69!

4 jars Barilla pasta sauce BOGO $2.75 each = $5.50
Even with no coupons, that's only $1.37 per jar!

1 gallon Publix brand 2% milk $3.19
I used a FREE milk WYB $100 in groceries coupon AND a $1 off milk WYB any Sara Lee bread Q from a tear-pad that I found on the bread aisle! $3.19 - $3.19 - $1 = $1 OVERAGE!

2 bottles Coffe-Mate creamer on sale 3/$5 = $1.66 each = $3.32 total
I used two $1/1 MQs...$3.32 - $1 - $1 = $1.32 or $.66 each!

2 containers Weight Watchers yogurt on sale 10/$5 = $.50 each = $1.00 total
I used one BOGO MQ...$1 - $.50 = $.50 or $.25 each!

6 containers Dannon Light & Fit yogurt on sle 10/$5 = $.50 each = $3 total
I used one $1/6 MQ...$3 - $1 = $2 or $.33 each!

3 pgks 6 ct each Dannon Light & Fit yogurt on sale 3/$6 = $2 each = $6 total
I used three $.60/1 MQs...$6 - $1.80 = $4.20 or $1.40 each!

1 box Tennessee Pride sausage gravy on sale 10/$10 = $1

2 pkg Hillshire Farm lunch meat on sale 2/$3 = $1.50 each = $3 total
I used a $1 lunch meat WYB Sara Lee bread MQ that I found on a tearpad...again in the bread aisle. $3 - $1 = $2 or $1 per package!

4 pkg Cesar dog food on sale $.79 each = $3.16 total
I used two BOGO MQs...$3.16 - $1.58 = $1.58 or $.39 each!

2 bricks Publix brand cheddar cheese on sale $1.69 each = $3.38 total

1 pkg Publix brand sliced American cheese on sale 2/$4 = $2.00

1 dozen Publix brand eggs $1.89

1 container Publix brand cottage cheese $1.89

1 $33 Publix gift card to use next time

For a grand total of...

In addition to all of the coupons listed here, I also used a $6 RR that I got from Walgreens last week for buying the Dove Men+Care body wash that I posted about here.

Like I said, I could have done things a little differently and only paid $.35, but since it was my own mistake I don't mind paying an extra $6!

Even better news is that I still have $13 in RRs to either use at Publix or Walgreens as well as another Publix gift card!

This is the first time my savings have ever gone above $200! I was so excited that I made my wonderful husband take a picture of me with my receipt (keep in mind I did work all day...and I'm not wearing any make-up!). I think it's safe to say it's the first time he's ever had to take a picture of me holding a receipt-but hopefully not the last!

Have a question or a comment...let me know!

My Target trip 2/14: Can we say MONEYMAKERS!!!

I swear I am waaay too easily excited by coupon deals! I can't help it, I just love saving money and getting free things that I may not have otherwise been able to afford. I was talking to my mom earlier and we both agree that the best thing about the great items that we score from our coupon deals is that they're mostly 'want' items that we couldn't normally buy. It's awesome. Just totally awesome!

So I managed to buy quite a bit at Target for not so much money.
Here's what I bought:

And here's the breakdown:
Gillette Fusion and Venus Breeze razors are on sale this week for $6.99 each, and when you buy 2 in a transaction the register will prompt the cashier to hand you a $5 Target gift card.

1 Fusion razor on sale for $6.99
I used a $4/1 Q from the P&G insert from 2/7 = $2.99

3 Venus SpaBreeze Razors at $6.99 each = $20.97 total
I used three $2/1 Qs from the P&G insert from 2/7 = $14.97

3 Olay body washes at $5.84 each = $17.52
I used three 'buy any Venus SpaBreeze razor, get a FREE Olay body wash' Q from the P&G insert from 2/7 = FREE body wash!!!

I paid a total of $17.96 + tax OOP, but walked out with two $5 Target gift cards because I bought 4 razors (remember, the deal was a gift card for every two razors purchased-no limit), so I really only paid $7.96 total.

Now here's where it really gets good...Olay has a $15 rebate available, the only qualification is the purchase of ANY 3 Olay products. Even though I paid absolutely nothing for the three bottles of body wash, they qualify for the rebate! I might have paid $7.96 today, but in a few weeks I'll get that rebate check in the mail for a PROFIT of $7.04!!!

You can find out the detail of the mail in rebate (MIR) and print the necessary form here.

CVS Trip on 2/14/10

So I got a text from my coupon-buddy Trista letting me know they were getting low on certain sale items, so I skedaddled (yes, it's a word) over to CVS to grab what I thought were the best deals.

I haven't posted on the basics of CVS shopping like I have other stores, primarily because I don't make it a point to shop there weekly but I think I need to stop neglecting my friendly neighborhood pharmacy! So expect a comprehensive breakdown on the basics of CVS shopping later this week, but for tonight it's just my shopping trip.

As I was scanning the early addition of the ad on IHeartCVS.com, these were the items that jumped out as the best deals:

Colgate Total Advanced Whitening Toohpaste
On sale for $2.99, qualifies for $2 Extra Care Buck (ECB) = $.99
I used a $1/1 coupon that I cut from All You Magazine (more on this mag later!), which brought the price down to FREE!

Crest Pro Health Mouthwash
This item is on sale for $3.50, qualifies for $3.50 ECB = FREE after ECB
But to make it even better there is a $2/1 Crest Rinse Q in the Proctor & Gamble (P&G) coupon insert from 2/7 that you can use to actually make $2 when you buy this item!

Aussie shampoo, conditioner or styling products on sale for $2.99 each, qualifies for $2 ECB = $.99 after ECB
There is a $1/1 any Aussie product Q in the 2/14 RP that you can use to get this item for FREE!

Sobe Life Water on a BOGO sale for $1.99 each.
If you were to print this coupon you could get BOTH FOR FREE! The register will automatically take the price of the second Sobe to $0, and the coupon will take the price of the first Sobe to $0 too!

Of course, by the time I got there they were already out of Crest mouthwash, and I hadn't even bought my papers yet to get the Aussie coupon, so I settled for some free toothpaste and some mouthwash that I had two rain-checks for (more on rain-checks later).

I spent $7.50 on everything (including 4 newspapers not pictured) and walked out with $2 in ECB to use on my next shopping trip at CVS. I'll make it a point to swing by tomorrow to pick up my Aussie shampoo and see if there is any of the Crest mouthwash in stock. I'll keep you posted!

Walgreens: Spent $14.26, Saved $37.47, Made $19.00 PROFIT!

I've been putting this trip off all week, which is pretty sad considering I work right next to Walgreens. The 15% off coupon that I blogged about here was the incentive I've been looking for.

Here's what I bought:

And here's the breakdown:

Dove Men+Care Face & Body Wash
$5.99 - 15% = $5.09 - $1.25/1 MQ = $3.84

Joint Juice x 2 $10 each
$20.00 - 15% = $17 - B1G1 MQ = $8.50

Kotex Tampons x 2 On sale for 2/$6
$6 - 15% = $5.10 - $1.50/2 = $3.60

Walgreen's brand cotton rounds
$1.99 - 15% = $1.59 no coupon used

I also used a $5 RR that I received a few weeks ago for buying 2 bottles of Advil PM (which was free after my coupons) that brought my total down to $14.26.

The Dove Men+Care body wash, Joint Juice and Kotex tampons are all part of Register Reward deals, so the register printed these:

So although I may have spent $14.26 OOP (out of pocket), I got back $19.00 in RR, so my shopping trip was actually a $4.74 MONEYMAKER!

The nice thing about Walgreen's RRs is that they are programmed to print when you buy the product, it doesn't matter at what price. Even though I only paid $3.84 for the body wash, it still printed a $6 RR. The same goes for the $10 RR for the Joint Juice (only paid $8.50) and the $3 RR for the Kotex tampons (only paid $3.60 instead of the advertised $6).

And what's even better is that I have $19 in RRs to spend at Publix on Sunday!

And just in case you need proof:

Walgreen's 15% off Coupon Friday 2/12 ONLY!

If you're thinking of stopping by Walgreens tomorrow, or if you've been putting off your Walgreen's shopping trip all week like me, you'll love this 15% off coupon that's good for Friday 2/12 ONLY.

This coupon will take 15% off your total purchase, including sale items. Pair it with some coupons and RRs to make some GREAT deals. And since Valentine's day is right around the corner, you can always write your wish list on the back of the coupon as an easy shopping list for you hubby!

Go here to print your coupon. The fine print says it must be used at the cosmetics or photo counters to be applied, so don't bother waiting in line at the front of the store.

As with most 'off your total purchase' coupons, there are some exlusions. You can't use it on alcohol (darn!), cigarettes, gift cards, dairy (no cheap milk here!) or prescriptions.

You can still get the Dove Men+Care deal that I posted about here, as well as a few others.

Right now Walgreen's has Kotex brand tampons on sale 2/$6. Try this scenario for a GREAT deal:

Kotex Tampons (18 pack) 2/$6 = $3 Register Reward (on 2)
Use the 15% off Walgreens coupon (will deduct $0.90)
Use $1.50/2 Kotex Tampons coupon from here
Pay $3.60
Get back a $3 Register Reward
Final cost ONLY $0.60 for both… just $0.30 per box of Tampons!
Seriously, when is the last time you paid $.30 for anything, let along tampons???

Coupons = SPAM?

Most of the coupons that I get from the internet are from websites that provide them no-strings attached (Coupons.com is a great example), but sometimes a manufacturer's website will require that I complete a short form in order to get my coupon.

Most will ask for contact info, a few will go a little further and will ask questions that allow them to create a profile of their customers (occupation, income, age, etc.). Whenever I have to provide my email address the last thing I want to do is use my REAL email!

By REAL email I mean the one I use each and every day. I don't want to be bombarded with SPAM in order to save a dollar. I suggest you go to a site such as Yahoo or Hotmail that offers free email service and set up an email account that you use strictly for couponing purposes.

Your SPAM blocker will thank me. :)

Coupon Organization: Accordion file

There so many different ways to organize coupons, and trust me, I've tried just about every single one of them!

The subject of coupon organizing deserves more than just one post. To be honest, I don't think I could even cover it all in one post!

Most beginners will find the accordion file the easiest to start off with. You can find them small enough to tuck right inside your purse, and they hold more than you'd think. You can label the different dividers to allow you find the category you're looking for easily.

Rather than using the pre-printed labels that often come with these organizers, I recommend making your own so that the labels make sense to you. For example, my coupons are divided into categories according to how I shop. Dairy, Deli, Snack-foods, etc.

These organizers are easy to find and are very inexpensive. You can find them at the Dollar Tree for $1 or you can upgrade to a slightly sturdier, plastic version at Walmart for around $2.50. You could also defeat the purpose of using coupons altogether by purchasing a designer, chic, fabric organizer! These start at (brace yourselves) $25 and the possibilities are endless.

The down-side, especially once you start to build your coupon collection, is that you have to spend more time flipping through all of the coupons in a particular pocket to find the one that you're looking for. And while they might hold more than you'd think, these little organizers do have their limit and once you reach it, you're pretty much stuck.

Final Verdict:

Great for beginners, not suitable for a pro.

FREE Men+Care face/body wash at Walgreens!

Right now Walgreen's has the Dove Men+Care body/face wash on sale for $5.99. (I know, that doesn't exactly sound like a sale price!) The price is the bad news, the good news is that once you purchase 1 bottle the cash register will generate a RR for $6 making the body/face wash FREE!

Remember, you can use the RR on your next purchase at Walgreen's or you can use it as a manufacturer's coupon at Publix and take $6 off your next grocery purchase!

If you want to sweeten the deal you can use the $1.50 coupon found here, or you can use the $1.25/1 coupon from the 1/31/10 Smart Source coupon insert.

If you use either one of those coupons you will pay $4.49-$4.74 and still earn a $6 RR! That's a MONEYMAKER baby!

Hot Target deal on Quaker Oatmeal!

Each week Target has certain deals that allow you to earn a $5, $10 or even $15 Target gift card if you purchase certain items.

One of those deals this week is on Quaker oatmeal products. Target carries the individual serving size oatmeal containers and right now they're priced at $1.02 each. That means you'll pay .10 for all five-and if you really wanted to you could turn around and use that gift card to purchase 5 more and get ANOTHER $5 gift card! (Or you could buy me something nice-choice is yours ;)

To sweeten the deal you could also print out a $1 any Quaker oatmeal product coupon here. Whether you print and use a coupon on one oatmeal cup or on all 5, the coupon turns this deal into a MONEYMAKER!

Deal Scenario:
Buy 5 Quaker Easy Express Oatmeal $1.02 each
(it looks like the Golden brown sugar variety is all that’s available)
Pay $5.10
